This section is all about how you can get involved to change things for young people in Hackney.

Youth Participation in Hackney 2012 and beyond

In February, members of the Youth Parliament, Area Youth Forums, Youth Engagement Programme and others met with professionals from the Council and other organisations to discuss how young people's opinions can have an impact on decisions made about young people's services in the borough.

The event also considered different ways young people that can get involved in the way the new Young Hackney centres will be run.

Through the event, we were able to generate some fresh ideas, and agree on some actions to improve youth participation in the borough.

If you would like to get more involved in youth participation you can:

• Find out about Hackney Council's plans to improve things for young people in the borough by reading the Children and Young People's Plan, or by keeping up to date on the five planned new youth centres.
• Get involved in local democracy by putting yourself forward as a candidate for the Hackney Youth Parliament elections.
• Find out more about the role of the Hackney Youth Parliament, Area Youth Forums and the Council for Looked-after Children 'Our Voice Our Choice'
• Raise money to fund your own projects to improve children and young people's facilities, or give young people more things to do, through the Youth Opportunity Fund.
