work experience: junior katumba

Junior recently completed a week's work experience with Point Blank. Here's how he got on:

28th June 2010 – Office Work

Today was my first official day and I was introduced to the team in the office. I was then asked to go not the Young Hackney site (www.younghackney.org) and look around the site then give some feedback. Once I had completed that task I created a track using the Remix Machine on both the Young Hackney site and the Point Blank London site (www.pointblanklondon.com). Once I created my track on the Point Blank London site I commented on other people’s tracks in order to get them commenting on mine.

29th June 2010 – Radio Production

Today I went to City YMCA to help out with the Radio Production course which is taking place there. I helped to set up the equipment. I helped to introduce the radio program and came up with a questionnaire to ask the public. I learnt about the recording equipment then went to ask members of the public questions and recorded their answers. We then edited each sound wave off the recorded clip. I helped to save the work and pack away all of the equipment.

30th June 2010 – Company Marketing.

Today I helped out with the company marketing where I searched Twitter and Facebook for high rated groups. Once I had found the most popular groups I left them comments about Point Blank courses.

I also logged on to Sound Cloud and added sound tracks on popular group pages. Finally I finish any unfinished mixes and then post them to Facebook.

1st July 2010 – Company Marketing

Today I logged onto Facebook and invited people to the Point Blank group. Once again I commented on user pages about Point Blank course. Then I went onto YouTube to find music production videos and bookmarked each video. Finally I logged on YouTube and left a Point Blank video response on user pages

2nd July 2010 – Office Work

Today was my final day and I was given to-do task to complete. I also had to print out paperwork for the community courses and staple them together.

Interview

How have you enjoyed your time at Point Blank?

It was much better than I had expected being in an office environment. I enjoyed meeting the different people in the office and doing the various tasks.

What activities have you been involved in?

Making tracks on the Remix Machine, taking part in a Radio Production course at City YMCA, helping the college assistants with their day to day activities which include prepping the studios for each class, printing out handouts and paperwork and tidying up the college, taking take in a film production course – learning how to make a film. Also, general office admin including filing and printing documents

What was your favourite part of working at Point Blank?

The first day where I was getting to know everyone. Also doing the Radio Production class as it was hands–on and I learnt how to conduct interviews and went out on the street and interviewed various people.

Would you like to work here in the future?

Yes as the manager (just joking!!). Maybe as a tutor or as an assistant.

What are your plans for the rest of summer/next term?

I need to try and get a job but mainly enjoy the sun before I have to go back to Uni where I’m studying media and animation.
