Contrast - Young People's Magazine

The Magazine written by young people, for young people in Hackney

Contrast captures the vibes of young people in Hackney and tells the world what our generation is all about.”

Cheryl & Rosheena, Contrast Editorial Team.

The new edition of Contrast Magazine has just been released.

Contrast is a free magazine written by young people in Hackney. The magazine celebrates the experiences, the lifestyle and the successes of Hackney’s young people and is a forum for young people to share their unique view of the world with others.

An editorial team of 13-to-19-year-olds determine the content and then produce the articles, design and illustrations under the guidance of an experienced production team. Regular production meetings are held at which young people discuss their ideas and get a chance to put them into practice, while gaining accredited media training. The Contrast team also run sessions with groups of young people who are unable to attend regular workshop sessions, to enable as wide a range of young people as possible to contribute. You can gain awards and qaulifications that might just be the start to a career!

If you're aged 13 to 19, you can get involved too….

“We’re looking for young people in Hackney who want to be involved in writing, journalism, design and illustration”, says David Floyd, Social Spider Director and project manager for the new magazine. “We want young people to come to us and use the magazine to share their ideas with other young people. It’s a great way to pick up new skills and meet new people.”

The magazine is published by the Community Interest Company, Social Spider and funded through the Youth Opportunity Fund, which is managed by young people in Hackney Youth Service.
