Don't miss this: £5k for YOUR project

posted by: Administrator

Did you read Rhianna's blog a while back about why the YOF should be saved? Well here's some news... the Youth Opportunity Fund IS BACK.

That's right, the fund that allows young people to apply for up to £5,000 to plan, promote and put on events and activities has returned and is open for business.

Council backs youth-led projects

What you might not know is, because of the cuts, this time round the money isn't coming from the government. The Council has decided to run a Hackney-only version of YOF for another 12 months.

What kind of events have been funded in the past? Here's a short list: the International Women’s Day event, the Steel Pan Orchestra at Young Hackney Stoke Newington Centre, Hidden Heroes, the Show Love Fashion Show, Cycling Club Hackney, support for the Gems Football Club, youth theatre at the Arcola... we could go on, but there wouldn't be space to tell you how to apply.

Right... tell me how to apply!

You can apply for funding in groups of three or more. The project leaders should be between 13 - 19 years (up to 25 years for young disabled groups) and the activities on offer should be for other young people of the same age.

There will be four rounds of funding available over the year. The deadline for the next round is Monday 30 May 2011. Full details of how to apply and application forms are available on the Get Involved pages: http://www.younghackney.org/getinvolved/in-the-community/youth-opportunity-fund-yof.php
