Hackney 2012 Youth Ambassadors

posted by: Administrator

In 2012 the Olympics and Paralympics, the biggest sporting event in the world, is coming to London and Hackney. The building work for the Olympics and Paralympics also means extraordinary changes to the landscape of Hackney and East London. As an Ambassador you will learn about both the Olympics and Paralympics and the regeneration 2012 is bringing to East London.  You will find out about the Olympic Stadium, other 2012 buildings on the Olympic park and how these buildings and the Olympic park will change the lives of people living in Hackney and East London.

As an Ambassador you will inform other young people in Hackney about the 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games. You will also help promote sports participation among young people in Hackney and represent the council at a variety of 2012 related events.

The Ambassador programme lasts for one year with the possibility of further activity after that year.  Nearly all the Ambassador training and activity is outside school hours, mainly in the evenings and occasionally at the weekend, there will normally be one or two evening meetings per month.  Hackney 2012 Youth Ambassadors are from secondary schools across Hackney so you will be part of a Hackney 2012 Youth Ambassador Team made up of a diverse group of young people living in different parts of Hackney.

Your training will include learning about:

  1. Olympic and Paralympics History, Inspiring Athletes.
  2. 2012 Regeneration, Making Hackney a Better Place
  3. Understanding the Paralympics. What is Fair Competition?
  4. The Olympic Site, past present and future.
  5. Who make 2012 happen and what is the ‘Get Set’ Education programme?
  6. Equal Opportunities
  7. Understanding the Media
  8. Presentation and Communication skills
  9. Peer Research and Consultation
  10. Event Management

What will you do?

As a Hackney 2012 Youth Ambassador you will do a lot of different activities, the activities below from last year will give you an idea of what you will do.

1. Visited the Olympic Park
