Hackney Black History Month

posted by: Administrator

Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of the contribution that Black African and Caribbean communities have made locally, in the UK and across the globe.

This man can dance! This year it's the United Nations International Year of People of African Descent, so the celebration in Hackney is bigger than ever – focusing on a theme of Roots, Culture and Tradition.

There’s loads of stuff happening over the next weeks – everything from African mask-making to free hairstyling workshops, open mic sessions and fashion workshops.

If you want to see all the events, you can download a copy of the programme here, or visit the ‘What’s On’ and see what’s happening day-to-day (all the Black History Month events are marked BHM).

You can also find out more about what's going on nationally by checking out the Black History month home page (www.black-history-month.co.uk) There's some great YouTube clips of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King.

Most events in Hackney are free but sometimes you may need to book in advance, so please check relevant details in the programme and keep an eye on the Hackney Council website for new additions.
