So where did you stand on the teacher’s strike? It was a pretty even split between those who thought you should have the right to withdraw your labour (if that’s the only option) and those of you who were obviously straight down the park, working on your tan. Not too many thought that it was unfair on students.
The latest young hackney question is about dogs. Are they a menace when they are let off the lead?
It’s a tricky one, balancing the needs of different residents. Although many people (and young people in particular) complain about aggressive dogs being on the loose, plenty of people love their pooches and think that Dog Control Orders punish the responsible majority.
The Council’s consulting on different options for dog control
a 'dog exclusion' order, which would enable the Council to stop dogs from entering certain places such as playgrounds, pitches, multi-use games areas etc.
a 'dogs on leads' order, which would stop owners from exercising dogs off-lead on roads or towpaths or in car parks, communal areas on estates, churchyards and small public parks and gardens
a 'dogs on leads where requested' order, which would give officers the power to request that dogs are put on leads where they are not under the appropriate control of their owner, or where they are causing damage or acting aggressively
Young Hackney pledges to be neutral in all of this, but asks you as you mull over your answer to consider the feelings of ultimate-dog-tease-dog…(yeah we know you 've seen it, but it's the gift that keeps on giving)
