Leona Lewis and Plan B are the first confirmed acts for BBC1’s Hackney Weekend 2012, announced on Monday. The event is going to be totally free and over 100,000 people are expected to attend over the weekend of the 23 and 24 June, making it the biggest multi-artist line up ever for Radio 1.
Priority tickets go to Hackney residents – no news yet on how to apply, but keep an eye out on the Radio One website www.bbc.co.uk/radio1.
The launch was announced at a special event at Hackney Empire featuring Trevor Nelson, Hackney born Radio 1 and 1Xtra presenter; and World and European Triple Jump Champion Phillips Idowu, who was also born in the borough. Plan B sent a video message from America; and Leona performed two tracks live. Hear her interview on Live Lounge with students from Cardinal Pole and Our Lady’s:
