Young Hackney Steel Pan in Action

Tim Loughton MP, Minister for Children and Families, paid a visit to Young Hackney Stoke Newington Centre on Tuesday 15  to find out more about the new Young Hackney myplace centres - and was given a quick lesson in steelpan by members of the Young Hackney Skittlez Steel Pan Orchestra.

It's a year on since YHSN opened, so it was a chance for the Minister to see how the four new centres (Forest Road, Parkside, Hoxton Hall and Concorde) will run when they open in early summer next year.Tim Loughton MP wuth Skittlez

The Minister chatted to staff and was given a tour by Jermaine Jackman of the Stoke Newington Youth Forum and Florence Kroll, Assistant Director of Young Hackney. He was then given a snap lesson in steelpan by members of the YH  group (Pembe Tokluhan, Asheka Blondell and Ebony Bailey-Gail pictured here). Jermaine with Tim Loughton MP

There was time at the end of the visit to take in other activities which regularly take place at the centre, including a personal safety session run by Sev Necati.
