Young Hackney Volunteers Project, run by CSV – the UK’s leading volunteering and training charity – is recruiting 900 young people aged 13-19, so you can help to make Hackney a better place.
The idea is to create volunteer opportunities that interest, suit and benefit you, so you can gain valuable experience, learn new skills, and give something back to the community.
You could help run art and entertainment events, work on projects to improve the environment, or help tackle local issues such as community safety or health. Volunteering roles will be on a full-time, part-time or one-off basis.
The project, funded by Hackney Youth Service, will also concentrate on working closely with local community and youth groups to help them establish their own volunteering programmes.
Rhasan (aged 15), the project’s first volunteer says “I believe this project can benefit young people in the community and in fact do a lot for the community itself in many ways. It can offer us young people with nothing to do and no place to go a place to spend time doing something productive, and something we enjoy. When there is a place for young people to go, you'll see less young people on the street all day”.
The project will also develop a Young Person’s Advisory Group to make sure that young people’s ideas are heard and taken into account throughout the programme and how it is run. There will be opportunities to network with other volunteers, and the hope is that the Hackney Volunteers will develop a powerful voice locally, contributing to debates on community issues.
