Three groups from Hackney were centre stage at a premiere event at the Rio last night, showing films they had made to an audience of leading film-makers, health experts and students.
The films, produced by groups from Stoke Newington, Skinners and City were all entries to the 2011 Cut Films competition, a national anti-smoking campaign which aims to make young people aware of the dangers of smoking.
The competition encourages young people to research, write and produce a short film about why smoking isn’t cool, and then post it for other young people to view on You Tube.
At the Hackney Showcase, each group of students presented their research, explained how they came up with the idea behind their film and described their experiences in making it.
