World Zombie Day is 8 October - first celebrated at Pittsburgh’s Monroeville Mall in 2006. Monroeville Mall was where George Romero filmed Dawn of the Dead - it's a fine Zombie Movie, has both zombies and shopping.

The idea of the Zombie is said to come from Haiti, where it was believed human corpses could be brought back to life with a combination of sweet words and bad chemistry. Zombies would then do the housework, sweep up the leaves in the yard, that kind of thing.
