Tinie Tempah and Florence confirmed for Hackney Weekend

posted by: Administrator

Tinie Tempah and Florence and the Machine are the latest confirmed artists for the BBC Big Weekender next June – joining a line-up that already features Leona Lewis and Plan B.

Leona and Plan B are both going to act as Ambassadors for the event, along with Radio 1/1Xtra DJ Trevor Nelson MBE and Former World and European Triple Jump Champion Phillips Idowu, both of whom were born in Hackney.

The BBC have also confirmed that local acts will be selected to appear on the BBC Introducing stage and that free tickets to Hackney Weekend will be made available to inspirational young people from the local community.

And, a final bit of news – the BBC is set to create a Media Academy in the borough giving Hackney young people a chance to take part in workshops and sessions on a range of subjects including business, arts, radio production and journalism.

The Hackney Weekend is going to be the BBC's biggest ever free ticketed live music event, on Hackney Marshes on 23-24 June 2012.
