Youth Takeover This Weekend!

Going out to all 13 to 21 year-olds who live in Hackney...

Alter Ego kick-starts the 2012 Discover Young Hackney Festival on Friday 3 as the cream of Hackney’s talent competes for the title “Alter Ego 2012”. Doors open 7.00pm, tickets £2 on the door or £4 advance. Book through the Empire box office on 020 8985 2424 or see hackneyempire.co.uk/youthtakeover

The show is followed by a whole weekend of youth events at Hackney Empire, including Saturday’s Youth Opportunity Fair and live DJ club night at the Empire Cafe 7.00pm - 10.00pm. Both events are free, but spaces are limited, email projects@hackneyempire.co.uk to book your place.

Sunday 5 there’s creative writing workshops, comedy workshops, street-dance workshops and prop-making workshops. All free, and all run by top industry professionals, email projects@hackneyempire.co.uk to book your place.

  • Creative writing workshop with Eastender's Tameka Empson and Hackney Empire's Creative Director Susie Mckenna. Runs from 11.00am - 1.00pm
  • Artburst Teen Mums' and Minis' workshop interactive workshop for young parents and under 5s. 1.30pm - 2.45pm
  • Comedy workshop with TV favourite Hardeep Singh - mic supplied: all you need is your imagination. 2.30 - 4.30pm
  • Street-dance workshop with Kat B the man who taught Boy Blue creater Kenrick H20 Sandy the moves. 4.30 - 6.30pm.
  • Johnny B's Blue Peter prop-making workshop Johnny Blunden, from the National Youth Theatre. 4.30 - 6.30pm
