Hackney Youth Parliament is offering 15 FREE spaces on a residential in February half-term (16th – 19th) to young people across Hackney.
You may or may not know about Hackney Youth Parliament, but we are a group of elected young people who aim to represent all young people in Hackney.
We are launching a ‘Respect Differences’ campaign to promote tolerance and respect and reduce bullying and hate crime. The project is about bringing people together no matter what their background or culture. We believe Hackney doesn’t need to be divided it needs to be united as one.
Our plan is to create an artistic giant 3D Map of Hackney during a residential in February half-term. The Map will represent many of the different groups living in Hackney. The Map will then be exhibited locally in Hackney. The project will last for a few months but we would love to keep a lasting link between HYP and your group.
The schedule runs as follows:
Before February 16th- Meet your group to let you know about the project and how to get involved. We hope to arrange a time to meet as soon as possible.
Between February 16th and 19th- A few members from each of the groups we recruit will get to go on a residential, On this residential we will be doing teambuilding activities as well as being trained by a professional artist on artistic techniques, so don’t worry if don’t feel very good at art. This will lead us on to make the map. The map will be made from materials from the local area as well as recycled materials. This residential will be a great opportunity to gain skills and meet new people and also ensure your voice is being heard in HYP. The event will be filmed to make a short documentary.
After the residential- It will be decided on the residential how much more time to spend on the art work, the film and also a section in a local youth magazine ‘Vision’. This will involve a couple of sessions where we either meet as a big group or come to your youth club. It’s flexible.
We hope you get involved! From Hackney Youth Parliament members
