National Volunteers Week

Volunteering works

Over the first year of CSV’s Young Hackney Volunteers project, 274 volunteers signed up.

Young Hackney volunteers have worked on numerous projects, such as supporting schools or running intergenerational befriending initiatives and youth buddying programmes.

They have also worked with youth clubs to enable young people to run their own initiatives such as fundraising for the Hackney winter night shelters and setting up a peer-to-peer conflict resolution training programme to raise awareness.

CSV is now looking for young people to sign up for their summer programme. Opportunities for volunteering include:

  • Jahmal Mason-Blair Trust Fundraiser Help organise a testimonial football match and raise money for the JMB Trust. 1 – 5 August (tbc) 11:00am – 4:00pm + match day.
  • Open Mic We need new acts, managers and ushers for a one-off music night in aid of St Joseph’s Hospice. Various days throughout August.
  • EatSmart Learn how to cook simple meals and share your recipes with others. One day a week throughout the summer.
  • Cultural Xchange Explore books and music from different cultures and create a multi-cultural art exhibit of poems, pictures and stories. One day a week throughout summer.
  • Clothes Drive Collect quality clothing and raise funds for St Joseph’s Hospice.
  • Hindle House Youth Committee Help organise a summer programme for residents in the Shacklewell area.
  • Mend-a-bike Learn the basic skills of fixing bicycles and put it into practice by helping the local community.

All opportunities are free and are attached to accreditations. For days and dates and to find out more, call 020 8510 4900 or email: kbelo@springboardlc.org.uk
