The best of Hackney’s arts and cultural organisations open their doors to 11-19 year olds so they can explore their hidden creative talents. Discover Young Hackney gives thousands of young people the chance to show their talent or try something new in the arts.

Chinese lanterns

Chinese lanterns Dragons, birds and ferocious animals are part of the tradition of decorating Chinese lanterns for the Chinese New Year celebrations. Create your own images from Chinese mythology and learnhow to make traditional lanterns, with ideas and inspiration  from the Geffrye Museum.


Design make createDesign, make, create Think everyone else’s fashion ideas are just not cutting it? Make your mark at London College of Fashion’s taster day. Try your hand at fashion illustration, master the art of screen printing or work your magic in 3D and see your fashion ideas come to life.


Write on weekWrite on week Do you like to write? The new Hackney Young Writers Collective wants you. So what are you waiting for? Get your creative juices flowing, write and develop your own stories and poems and get published online.



2Moro Festival The ‘2moro?’ Festival explores issues which concern today’s young people such as street safety and gang culture through the use of drama, workshops and debate. Encouraging honest dialogue from young people about crime, with the aim of getting rid of it in the future.

Graphic Truths Bring your graphic novel hero or villain to life, working with a professional artist. Explore your comic design skills over two days and see your work online at


Animation workshopAnimation workshop Bring everyday objects to life and give your imagination a workout in this week-long animation workshop at the Geffrye Museum. Work alongside professional filmmakers and dig up the hidden stories behind museum pieces.


Six boroughs workshopSix boroughs workshop Fancy making some artwork to feature in the décor of a shoreditch venue? Learn how with young artists who are leading the way!

Or is film more your thing? This is your chance to make a film to be screened during a live music gig.


Six boroughs get togetherSix Boroughs Get Together The Create Programmers – a group of ten young people who live in the five Olympic boroughs – introduce a multicultural music gig featuring homegrown singers, MCs and bands from across the six boroughs.


Play in a dayPlay in a day Work well under pressure? Enjoy a creative challenge? Our team of professional directors, actors and musicians are aiming to create a piece of theatre and perform it live in just one day. And they need your help to do it.


GleeGlee Dance your way into the night at our New York Street Dance and cheerleading workshops. Learn new moves, make new friends and get your heart pumping. Save some energy for the final dance off!


No SpittingNo Spitting  Sick of singing in the shower? Want people to recognise your talent? Hoxton Hall is offering a talent event workshop for 13–19 year olds to showcase their talent.
