We have been invited by Young Hackney to participate in the Multiculturalism in Action project i- a cultural exchange based in the London Borough of Hackney that will bring together eight young people from  Istanbul, Turkey, and eight young people from Hackney, London UK. The project will use creative activities – such as film, cooking, theatre trips and clothing design - to develop cultural awareness and dispel stereotypes and perceptions while exploring what it means to live in a multicultural European society.  The exchange will take place over 6 days in Hackney, London. The project will make use of discussion forums on the Young Hackney website to introduce and facilitate communication between the young people prior to the exchange. Video diaries will be kept during the exchange event, which will culminate in a showcase event where the young people will demonstrate through the mediums of dance and theatre what it means to them to live in a diverse European society. 

We are living in a disadvantaged region in Istanbul in an area of immigration, which has resulted in overcrowding in schools and other facilities. This project will be a good chance for us to gain a new point of view. We are hardworking, self confident, active and joyful. We are going to present our country by Powerpoint presentation, drama activities. We are to to present Turkish cuisine, fashion and our customs.
