‘Words in Colour’: Black History Season Writing Competition

In honour of Black History Season 2023, Hackney Youth Parliament has launched a creative writing competition for young people in Hackney. You don’t have to be a professional to take part – we are looking forward to entries from young people with creative and imaginative minds.

The judging panel will be made up of the leaders, deputy leaders and Young Speakers of Hackney Youth Parliament.

Theme: ‘Before Windrush’ – an exploration of the lives and stories of Black African, Asian and Caribbean Britons who were living in the UK before the arrival of the Empire Windrush in 1948.

Any form of writing is accepted!

Everyone who takes part will be invited to the Black History Season event ‘Words In Colour’, which will take place on Saturday 21 October. Winners will be given a platform to perform their creative writing pieces at this event, and will be announced prior to the event to receive a prize!

All creative writing pieces will be published on the Young Hackney website after the event.

Entries must be original work and can be typed or recorded.

DEADLINE: Now extended to 5pm, Monday 16 October.

EVENT DATE: Saturday 21 October

WINNERS WILL BE CONTACTED BY WEDNESDAY 18 OCTOBER
