Volunteering

Volunteers are highly valued by Young Hackney.

Our volunteers enjoy:

To become a Young Hackney volunteer you have to be 18+ years old, submit an application form and attend an informal interview. Successful DBS and reference checking is also a requirement.

We ask for a commitment of two hours a week, but we can be flexible to accommodate your schedule.

In return for your time we offer full reimbursement of travel expenses and lunch expenses up to £5, support and supervision, training opportunities and references.

We are currently recruiting for several volunteer roles:

  1. Summer Programme Volunteer
    The Young Hackney Summer Programme volunteers will support the delivery of programmes and activities for young people during Young Hackney’s 6 week summer programme.

  2. Youth Work Volunteer
    Youth work volunteers support our teams to organise and deliver programmes and activities for young people. Volunteers use their skills and life experiences to build relationships and inspire young people and support them to develop new skills.

  3. Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Volunteer
    DofE Expedition Volunteers help to organise and facilitate the expedition section of the award, which is a fun, adventurous, outdoor activity that aims to push young people out of their comfort zone.

  4. Play Work Volunteer
    Play Work Volunteers support our teams to organise and deliver outdoors programmes and activities for young people. They support young people to engage in self-directed play in an enriched play environment.

  5. Young Carers Tutor Volunteer
    Young Carers Tutor Volunteers will help to establish a homework club and after-school, in person and/or virtual, where young carers can receive tutoring support in Maths and English by volunteer tutors.

    Sports Volunteers will support the delivery of our sports competition calendar e.g. supporting the running of the events, leading activities for young people of primary school age from Hackney schools.

  • Panel Member Volunteer
    We are seeking young people aged 19 – 25 years old to voice the perspective of younger Hackney residents and make the decision making process for Out of Court Disposals for young people more inclusive and child-centred.
