"On the 13th and 14th December Hackney Shed inclusive theatre company performed two nights of their original musical show to two full houses in BSix college theatre.
The show, devised by the children and young people who attend the weekly theatre sessions and written by artistic practitioners Nick Llewellyn and Terry O’Donovan, was based on the story of Cinderella. Hackney Shed’s version was set in modern day Hackney with heroine Kate (Sophia Ingar) loosing her ipod instead of a glass slipper and her ‘Prince Charming’ (Rhasan Bruner) finding her via the internet rather than on horseback!
Hackney Shed prides itself on the inclusive nature of its work and has over 60 members aged between 7-17 who attend weekly sessions at BSix college and who contributed to the ideas, script and characters that featured in the show.
The performances were a massive success with around 250 friends, family and members of the local community in attendance, although the first night coincided with a power cut in the Clapton area surrounding and including BSix college but as they say ‘the show must go on!’ so despite having no microphones, sound, projections, theatre lighting or heating the cast put on an amazing performance – followed by a second night where everything was in full working order!"
