The Youth Engagement project (YEP) has been running for over three years. Delivered in 9 estates in Hackney (Kingshold, Morningside, Frampton Park, Trelawney, Fellows Court, Fawcett, Landfield/Beckers, Woodberry Down and Holly Street) this estate based project aims to empower and encourage young people into active citizenship, by supporting them to participate more in their communities and make decisions about where they live through the formation of youth committees.
It is funded by Hackney Homes, Southern Housing Group, Sanctuary Housing, L&Q and Circle 33 who oversee the project as the YEP Board.
The project has 6 active youth committees who meet regularly, apply for external funding to put on activities and events in their communities whilst also representing the views of their fellow peers through tenant resident association meetings, neighbourhood youth forums and youth parliament.
The project equips youth committee members with personal development skills as well as training opportunities in order to develop their roles as effective committee members.
