* City Year volunteering

Why not sign up for a year of full-time volunteering, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world? Working in primary schools as a mentor, tutor and role model, you will make a difference by delivering in-school and after-school programmes and community projects.

Volunteers should be aged 18-25, City Year is particularly interested in people from the south of Hackney, and those who are not graduates (although graduates can apply). Come to the Tomlinson Centre on Tuesday 3 August to meet graduates from the programme and find out everything that City Year can offer you. Arrive at 14.15 to register for a 14.30 start. The Tomlinson Centre is located at Queenbridge Road, London E8 3ND, beside Albion Road. A 236 bus stops across the road from the Centre. www.thetomlinsoncentre.co.uk


* Smartmove media training

Training for young people aged 14 – 19 who are not currently in education or who are seeking work. Create your own Video Game and achieve a Bronze Arts Award. You will also get a day of work experience at a Games Design Company, Numeracy training from Entry Level 1 to Level 2 and advice and guidance about getting into work.

The course takes place at SCYAP, 82 – 84 Cromer Street, WC1H 8DG every Thursday & Friday from 10am – 4.30pm. £30 per week in attendance payments as well as other financial incentives to gain entry to employment.

* Training in music production and events with M2A

Motivate To Achieve(M2A) is a unique participatory project delivered by London East Connexions in partnership with creative professionals.

You will have the opportunity to perform, develop your music production skills, or learn about event management and promotion.

This course is designed for 16 to 18 year olds who are not currently in education or training, or are looking for work. It is free, though places are limited and allocated on a first come-first served basis.

* Free training for a career in construction

AlphaBSE offer construction training courses with job skills free of charge for 16-18 year olds. There is no registration charge, no training fees and no certification fees. Plus, you will receive Education Maintenance Allowance every week. Training venues now available in Hackney.

* Host Employability Programme

Host is an employability programme that has been designed to engage Hackney residents in the world of work, with a particular focus on the hospitality sector. The programme is designed for young people between the ages of 18 and 24, lone parents and those on incapacity benefit.

All participants will be provided with a coach to offer support and guidance throughout the programme and for 10 weeks after the end of the programme. For more information download the briefing sheet.


* Pre-Vocational Training - London Contemporary Dance School for Advanced Training

The London Contemporary Dance School Centre for Advanced Training are looking for young people with the talent, ambition and determination to become professional dance artists. The Place’s new Centre for Advanced Training enables students aged 10-17 to undertake intensive, part-time pre-vocational training.

Under the Scheme, financial support is available, subject to means testing and residence conditions, towards the costs of training, travel and equipment.
