Black History Season 2019

Black History Season is here! ??

And that means loads of amazing events in celebration of Black History, Black Culture and all its contributions to Hackney and beyond.

Last year Hackney Council ran a competition in schools for young people to design a Black History flag and this year the winner’s flag will be flying over the town hall!

This Black History Season there’s loads going on, for all ages!

You can find out about the impact of African & Caribbean fashion and hair in the borough through the ‘Hackney’s Got Style’ exhibition at Hackney Museum, as well as other events at the Museum and Hackney Libraries. Including film screenings, art workshops, discussions, live music and more!

All events are free, for full details chick here

There will also be jam packed programmes at all our youth hubs where you can explore black history through music, sports, arts & crafts, fashion & textiles, cooking and story telling.

There’s also poetry and creative writing, plus discussions, history sessions, events and guest speakers…basically what we are trying to say is there’s SO MUCH going on to honour black history and we don’t want you to miss it!

So make sure you get involved in all the celebrations ?

Events will take place across the borough, until January 2020.

Some events require advance booking. For more information pick up a programme from your local youth hub, library or the museum. You can also visit the black history webpage or Facebook page  to stay updated!
