Opportunities Fortnight

Two weeks to change your life! Opportunities Fortnight, 5 – 20 March, is a unique chance for you to take control of your future. Learn how to plan your career, gain the skills you need and get where you want to go.

There’s a whole range of events, workshops and discussions for you to take part in. You can meet employers, gain skills for the workplace; and get advice from inspirational professionals. Click on the events below to find out more:


For ages 8 – 13

  • My Future Dreams Creative workshop to help you think about your career and life.
  • Challenge Yourself Take up the Young Hackney challenge – two weeks to learn a new skill or try out a new activity.
  • When I Grow Up Create an art installation about your dream job and dream life.

For ages 13 – 25

  • Saturday Sewing Project Get into fashion with this combined skills workshop and careers programme.
  • Aspirations for all A workshop  for young people with Special Educational Needs or a disability. Find out how you can get a job, volunteer or get a new skill.
  • International Women’s Day Inspirational event for young women.
  • Challenge Yourself Take up the Young Hackney challenge – two weeks to learn a new skill or try out a new activity.
  • Take Control of Your Career Careers advice from experienced professionals. Discuss your aspirations and find out how you can get on the path to your chosen career.
  • Inspirational Women’s Dinner Hear from women who have been successful in a range of professions – and enjoy a free delicious meal!
  • Get Back into Training Drop-in session with one-to-one support for anyone currently out of education or training.
  • Get Into Tech Meet digital industry specialists, local businesses and universities. You’ll be able to network with the experts, take part in interactive workshops and test brand new tech.
  • Pembury Hook-Up Careers event with a panel discussion; jobs fair; free food and a DJ.
  • Why Volunteer Find out what’s on offer in Hackney – the advantages to volunteering, plus the pitfalls to avoid – and get on the road to your chosen career.
  • Edge-ucation Take part in workshops exploring the importance of learning and find out how you can broaden your learning horizons.
